As you may have already figured out, Dudley is a real dog. His life changed drastically when he was rescued from an animal shelter. He is larger than life and has an impact on everyone, wherever he goes. You can see it from the smile on people’s faces when they see him. And yes, he does have a penchant for blondes (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
I had no intention of becoming an author or writer. Sometimes I think they may be mutually exclusive. I’m not sure which one I am, or both. But Dudley does have a following. My writing about him brings me peace of mind and it also helps the plight of homeless rescue and shelter dogs.
How do The Dudley Files novels help his cousins looking for homes? For one, the profits from his book sales go directly to animal shelters and rescue groups. I also promote shelter animals on all of Dudley’s social media and websites. I tell their stories and show their beautiful images, so more times than not, they get adopted or fostered. I even bring a big stuffed toy dog named Dudley with me when I read my children’s picture book, Monsters In My Yard, to children. They love Dudley and they love the book. It’s really one of the most fun and fulfilling things I do.
I write because it’s my therapy. And it’s a whole lot cheaper. I write because good or bad, some books need and have to be written. That I have a following and people enjoy my books are just icing on the cake.
I do volunteer at animal shelters and with rescue groups. Every time I see a dog walking out of the front door with his or her new family, it reminds me of the joy Dudley brought to my life and the lives of others. When you read The Dudley Files novels, rest assured, your money is well spent, and I am certain you will be highly entertained. At least until the next one comes out.
