I don’t know about you, but I am really tired of the current presidential election. High quality individuals, they are not. How many times do we have to hear, “I’ll build a wall. It will be a beautiful wall. You’ll love the wall. The wall just got taller. Mexico will pay for the wall.”
So, I started thinking about walls. Why do we have to just hear about and think about walls that politicians talk about. By the way, do you know how to tell when a politician is lying? Answer: When they have any type of brain process. Or when they move their lips, whichever you prefer. I always take the broader approach – it’s all encompassing.
I decided I won’t let someone define my wall. So, here is my favorite wall. Sure, there are plenty of walls I like, but this one really did it for me. It captured my imagination. It garnered my complete attention. And I can’t believe I just used the word garnered. I love this wall. If I was going to build a wall, it would be this wall. And I wouldn’t make Mexico pay for it. If I had the money, I would build it myself.
The thing is, it doesn’t take much effort or money to build a wall. We build walls every day. Sometimes we build them to protect ourselves. Sometimes we build them because we need our alone time. Maybe we just need some time to ourselves to mourn those who have been called home. Maybe we need to write that book we’ve been meaning to get to (by the way, Called Home, Book III of the Dudley Files will be out soon and the fabulous cover will be revealed in the next several days). Maybe we just need a break. Maybe we just love to be surrounded by gorgeous flowers on our wall. Walls are built for many purposes. Sometimes they are invisible and sometimes they are blatantly obvious. A great example is The Great Wall of China. It was built to protect from invaders. Dang it, I just made myself hungry for China Garden restaurant, which by the way, has the BEST eggroll in Houston. That will be my next stop. I’m glad there is no wall keeping me out of there. Remember, walls can keep people out, but they can also keep you in. Or, they can just look pretty.
What kind of wall would you build? Me, I’d opt for the beautiful wall. The kind I found in Zichron Yaacov, a beautiful, warm, friendly little artist colony and vineyard town in Israel. That would be my kind of wall. And speaking of walls and politicians, A famous person once said: “He who puts his faith in a politician is a fool indeed.” Okay, I said it. I’m not famous – yet. But when I am, the wall I build – it will be beautiful. And you will love it. But I’ll probably pay for it myself.
