There in the corner of my eye I saw what I can only describe as a golden colored flash moving so fast that it was almost a blur. When I looked up from my magazine there was nothing but when I would cover my sight of vision by placing the magazine in front of my face, the golden flash would reappear and slow down.

Big Rock Warehouse/Loft
In less time that it takes a middle aged married man to spot the hottest young, bikini clad, beauty on the beach, Birk had us in front of Big Rock Lofts. I’m not sure that any of the three of us knew how we got back home so quickly but yet we were there.

James Coney Island/Hotdogs
As we were coming in for a landing at James Coney Island, I looked at Dudley and asked him point blank, “One dog or two?” Of course, I was expecting him to say nothing but as I had come to realize with him, he definitely said something. “Urrrr, ruff, urrrr, arrrrr,” he vocalized. “So you want two, is that correct,” I clarified.

SPCA
I knew full well that Dudley’s driver’s license had expired during his stay at the SPCA but being that we lived in Houston I figured if all of the illegal aliens drove without a license then so could Dudley. Houston’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Whataburger
Just before we got to work I was feeling a little hungry so we made a pit stop at Whataburger. Dudley had never been to a drive through so he remained most interested.

China Garden
“How you doing Baby,” she asked. She smiled and handed me a little bamboo plant in small blue and white very ornate porcelain pot with little white rocks in it instead of soil. It was growing in the shape of a heart. She told me that it was for me and my new friend because she knew how much I loved him. “Sometime you find true love and your heart full. You lucky!” she said.

Pipe Yard
The employees outside fenced in the one remaining open side of the dog run and the new Dudley play land palace was complete. Dudley hadn’t tried it out yet. He was taking another power nap on his green leather sofa. It was, after all, his first full day of work at Robinson Pipe & Supply so he was pretty tired. At least he was being productive. I really think that he is going to become a valued employee.

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo
She then told me to quit being a smartass and that she would be seeing him real soon because tonight was the Jake Harm and The Hold Outs concert at the Hide Out and that Birk had asked her to go with us.

Kenny & Ziggy’s Deli
Kenny & Ziggy’s is an authentic New York delicatessen located in — where else? – Texas. Although the menu was quite extensive, and there were many sandwiches to choose from (such as the Fiddler on the Roof of Your Mouth, One In A Minyon, and Brisky Business), I didn’t need to look at it, since I frequented this fine establishment on a regular basis. I ordered a Swiss & Shout sandwich.

Hermann Park Zoo/Train
Once Birk stopped, Sarge unbuckled himself and began his ejection procedure. Just before he stepped out of the truck, he looked at all three of us and asked, “Hey, man, han, han, han, have you been on the Hermann Park train since they redid it?”

The Texas Hill Country
Friend, how long has it been since you’ve seen a Texas sunrise from the top of a hill in the Texas Hill Country? Well, that’s too long! The sunrise in the Texas Hill Country is one of the most magnificent, calming, soulful-filling sunrises available for human consumption. Trust me on that.

Dudley meets Scout
As soon as I began walking up to the front door, Scout, who had been eyeballing me since I pulled up, stood and began barking. She was obviously not impressed with Careless. I could hear the barking from outside, and I could see her breath fog up the window every time she exhaled.

Westbury Animal Hospital
This award was called the “Angel Among Us” award. There was another nicely wood-framed document with L.D.’s name on it and it showed that he was once the President of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. Right next to that, also nicely framed, was an award for the Practitioner of the Year from the American Animal Hospital Association. The last award that I saw framed and hanging on the wall showed L.D. as the Companion Animal Practitioner of The Year from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. L.D was certainly highly decorated and had a wealth of experience. I decided right then that I had made the right choice for my new friend, Dudley.

Jake Harm & The Holdouts
Then Jake Harm and the Holdouts came on singing their new hit song, Wild Turkey at Sunrise, and I’ll tell you what, Dudley starting shaking his tail around in a big circle. He was definitely ready for a boot scoot.

Dr. Gordon was now rubbing Dudley all up and down and I could tell that he was liking it by the crocodile smile that he was sporting. She whipped out her stethoscope and began listening to his heart.
