Red is back! Well, I call him Red. I was watching it rain (and Lord knows, we need it in The Texas Hill Country) while possibly writing Book III of The Dudley Files (we’ll see). I noticed a buzzing noise coming from my right ear. Now, I have been accused of selective hearing on many an occasion, but I definitely heard this. I cocked my head around in the direction of the noise and sure enough, it was Red. He had just flown in from Mexico and boy, were his arms tired. Well, his wings but that wouldn’t have been a funny joke line. Thank you Bob Hope.
You see, Red avoided our harsh winter while vacationing down south of the border. Red made the trip back while sometimes beating his wings at 53 times per second. Yeah, that fast!
Red also happens to be a power color. You can tell this because he can sometimes be very bossy. If you’re married, you can probably relate. Just kidding, Honey Bunch! Or am I? He flies forward, backwards, up, down, and all around. And he moves like a bat out of hell. You’ve got to be quick to see this little rascal and he is a lot of fun to watch.
I’m glad Red’s back. He’s a source of cheap entertainment. Actually, he’s not cheap, he’s inexpensive. Don’t forget to put out sugar water for Red and of his friends, and by the way, it’s 1 part sugar, 3 parts water.
Welcome back Red.
We put our hummingbird water out this weekend. Tell Red to send his friends to Kansas City. We know Red wants to hang out in Texas with Careless & The Dogs, so we won’t invite him.
Lucy, all the little hummers thank you. I’ll tell Red to send his cousin, Ned. Ned is Red but sometimes gets a big head.
Dang~~~ this is nice!!
Thanks Cheryl. Be sure and tell all your friends about Dudley’s blog. He wants to spread it like peanut butter.
