Let’s dance – Put on your red shoes and dance the blues. Let’s dance – To the song they’re playin’ on the radio. Let’s sway – You could look into my eyes. Let’s sway – Under this moonlight, this serious moonlight.
I just love that Prince song, don’t you? I heard it playin’ on the radio yesterday and it got me thinking, what would make me happy enough to dance.
And please understand, I don’t dance. It’s a long story from earlier in my life when I was dancing with someone and their shoe flew off when that person kicked their foot up. It flew across the room, hit someone in the head, and knocked him down. Plus, I dance like Elaine Benes on The Seinfeld show, so, there’s that. Oh, you’ve never seen The Seinfeld Show? Suffice it to say, Elaine’s dancing was not a pretty thing. I mean, sure, I can do the White man shuffle, but who wants to see that? Answer: Nobody.
You could say I probably need therapy. Dance therapy. Hell, they have therapy for everything else. Why not? So, what would make me or anyone happy enough to dance?
For me, it could be several things. If I won the Lotto – I would most certainly do the Snoopy Happy Dance. When my sons were born, I was dancing inside – they don’t really allow dancing in the delivery room. When I’m at the ranch with no one around, just me and the girls (Medina and L.E.) sometimes we dance under the moonlight, the serious moonlight. Say what you want about L.E., she may be a Bully Breed, but she’s pretty light on her feet. And Medina, she can cut a rug – and has several times (mostly after chewing on it). I really felt like dancing when my house didn’t flood for the 2nd time in a year. It came within inches… And speaking of the Snoopy Happy Dance, every time I see a dog get rescued and have a new start on life with a loving family – well, nothing quite beats that.
Come to think of it, many things can make me happy enough to dance. I guess I just have to take a moment and remember all the good things in my life. Of course, they stare you right in the face every day, but it’s human nature to focus on the negative. Maybe we can do something about that. I may even try to do the White man shuffle more often. I really should. Start the Bee Gee’s music…
So, what makes you happy enough to dance? Do you dance? Under the moonlight? Not in a house, not with a mouse? You let me know. Just remember, turn that frown upside down. And dance if you feel like it. Nobody will laugh (unless you dance like me).
Oh, and I know it’s not a Prince song. Godspeed David Bowie, and Prince. #LetsDance
