I was walking the girls down by the river this morning and stumbled across a very unusual tree. We kept looking at it and it appeared to be looking back at us. It was a little unnerving at first but then I reminded myself that it was just a tree. Or was it? It was. That was a rhetorical question.
The tree really looked like a dragon. I named it: The Dragon Tree. As I walked further, my imagination took off and I saw other trees that appeared to be an alligator, and even a rhinoceros. Maybe I’ll post those at a later time. It kind of reminded me of looking at the clouds and seeing shapes and figures as they pass by.
Imagination is a powerful tool and a wonderful gift. Without it, we’d be very mundane. Where’s the fun in that? I wonder if today, children are allowed to cultivate their imaginations. Do they? I’m not sure. I do hope so. In honor of imagination, I will be releasing my first children’s picture book later this year. It will focus on kids using and harnessing their imaginations.
Imagine that.
